The next day after the Pearl Harbor bombing is when America officially entered the war against the Axis powers. Roosevelt had his entire country supporting him. After the Pearl Harbor bombing, Americas people didn’t need propaganda to motivate there dedication and passion for helping out in the war effort. Men were shipped off to war and women were called to run the build up of bombs and airplanes. At one point “The office of Civilian Defense called upon each American family to become a fighting unit on the home front. Everyone was asked to collect scrap metal from which armaments could be made. In one year alone, Mobile’s citizens amassed 22 million pounds of it” (Ward and Burns 146). Germany at the time was the biggest threat to America because of its massive military and advancement in weaponry. While America was planning a strategic plan on the axis powers, the notorious Adolph Hitler was doing acts of inhuman cruelty in his country. These acts were called the Holocaust. This was the cruelest part of World War II. Hitler placed Jewish people in concentration camps and had them murdered by gas chambers. While he was conducting cowardly acts on his home front he was also advancing rapidly on territory. On the other side of the world, another tragic event took place. The Japanese got a hold of American soldiers who were lead by General MacArthur. The soldiers were treated inhumane. They made them march 60 miles without food and water. The number of men affected by this event is tragic,” 75,000 men, 12,000 of them Americans, began the march, but only 54,000 reached its end” (Sulzberger 169). America needed to put an end to all the madness.
